Styling Over Bed Shelving

As you may have seen if you follow me on Instagram or read my latest post, then you’ll know that I have recently been redecorating my bedroom and i’m slowly getting there with decorating and organising all of my ornaments and prints. Prior to redecorating I’ve always had an over bed shelf, of which i’ve rejigged and I thought i’d share some tips on how you can too style your over bed shelving.

How I’m styling my over bed shelving…

For as long as I can remember, i’ve wanted over bed shelving especially from following so many fellow bloggers and interior lovers, I just fell in love with how they looked and how they can really off set a feature wall. So with a bit of help from Pinterest, fellow instagrammers and a few trips to Home Sense etc I have finally got to a place where I love my over bed shelving. Now onto the tips i’d share to anyone who too is wanting to add in some over bed shelving…

The Shelf

Sounds silly, but it’s also an obvious one as sometimes picking the right shelf is a big thing for some people, what with there being so many shelves on the market. I personally opted for the Ikea Lack Wall Shelf (£9) as I absolutely love the floating, clean look that it gives and they’re quite simple to attach onto a wall. However my choice of shelving isn’t what everyone may love, so below I have linked a few options to hopefully help in picking the right shelf for you!

Artwork

For me artwork is one of the best ways to add a bit of character to a room and it’s such a simple way to style up a shelf too! Personally I love the look of prints and frames leaning up against the wall but you can choose to also attach them to the wall, similarly to how i’ve hung the small copper quote sign of which I picked up from Aldi a while a go! For me Home Sense is such a great place to find affordable but unique prints and artwork, which is where I got these two from but you can also opt for websites such Desenio, Etsy or Not on The High Street of who have so many prints and frames to suit every style out there!

Add Personal Touches

One thing that separates every other over bed shelf image that exists on the gram or on Pinterest, is the added personal touches. Whether you have an award, a figurine or something personal to you, adding that onto a shelf will always add personal touch of your own character. For me I opted for a Wire Alphabet Ornament (£6) that I picked up from Next some time ago and have loved ever since! For me, I personally love initial ornaments as it instantly adds a personal touch and they just look really quirky! Am I right, or am I right?!

I’ve also added in some fake flowers, of which you’ll of seen in many of my blog photos as these are some of my favourite props, but I also love how they look! A lot of shelf styling photos that I come across have plants or greenery as an added touch, and if you’re a lover of plants or fake plants like me, adding a touch of greenery can instantly add a touch of character.

Co-ordinating Pieces

As well as adding artwork and personal touches, adding touches that co-ordinate with the pieces on the already shelf will help to bring the styling together. As you can see i’ve used a lot of gold and copper pieces, all of which come together beautifully I think. Here i’ve opted for this beautiful textured gold jar candle which I picked up from Home Sense, and this ‘dream’ sign that I received as a Christmas present last year, which also co-ordinates with the words within my prints. Whether you colour scheme is monochrome or pink and greys, figure out what colours work well to represent you and your style, and then find pieces that work to make your shelf come together.

So those are some tips on how to style your overbid shelving! This type of content is a first for me but i’ve loved sharing some home snaps over on my Instagram, so I thought it was about time to share some content over here too.
