July for me is one of my favourite months, not only because it is my birthday month but also because July marks exactly six months into the year and I often do a lot of reflecting, but also looking to the future during July. In true me style, I thought this would be a good opportunity to look back at the goals I set myself back in January, and see where I am with those goals six months on.
Reflecting on my goals six months on and where I am with them today…
Setting goals for me is one way for me to stay accountable for things that I want to push myself to achieve, but if plans change, or barriers come along that get in the way of those plans I’m not someone to dwell if i’m not able to achieve a certain goal. I also find that when setting goals, being realistic in what goals you’re setting to be a necessity as you’re never going to meet a goal if, from the get go you’re setting your sights way too high. Back at the beginning of the year I reflected on 2019, and I also set myself a few goals that I knew would be realistic to no doubt achieve through 2020. Now, with the current crisis situation the whole world is in this has definitely been a slight barrier in some of the goals I have set, but it has also allowed me to reassess and adapt to still achieve my goals, but through a slightly different route. So lets take a look at where I am with my goals six month on…
Continue to Explore More of Europe
One of my main goals for 2020 was to travel more, but travel specifically more in Europe as I have had a few lovely yet budget friendly breaks in Europe over the last couple of years and they have been my favourite holidays! LOL how tits up that goal went. Cheers Covid! You’ve got to laugh, otherwise you’ll only cry. I know I am not the only person in this situation, as so many people have had their 2020 holiday plans turned upside down, but I would rather be safe and well at the end of the day. I had planned and booked to visit Barcelona at the beginning of May and luckily I managed to get the majority of my money back, but we do still have our hotel voucher of which we can use next year when it is more safe to travel.
Try Something New in Terms of Fitness
Every year I set myself some sort of fitness related goal, and again with Covid it has meant that I have had to fully adapt to working out from home, meaning it has essentially forced me to try something new when it comes to this fitness goal. Initially I wanted to try new things such as yoga, or pilates and I did do one yoga class at the beginning of lockdown, but this resulted in having vertigo like symptoms for around two weeks, so that put an end to that! Instead, I have been doing weekly live workouts with the wonderful lads over at FittAF, who I also won an 8 week PT training course with so that has given me a right kick up the backside in terms of motivation and i’ve seen some amazing results so far! I’ve also picked up running and have been getting a 5K run in every weekend now for that couple of months. So all in all I would say I have definitely achieved this goal and will continue to push myself to keep at it!
Learn How To Film & Edit IGTV Videos
This year I knew that I wanted to really up my Instagram game, and I knew that one way to do this was to get into IGTV in order to share newer content. Now I did try to dabble in IGTV at the end of 2019, but I just couldn’t get the editing down and I just wasn’t happy in putting the content out knowing I could do better. Again, thanks to Covid and being furloughed, this gave me the extra time which allowed me to properly learn/teach myself how to create and edit IGTV videos, and I am absolutely loving it! With each IGTV I create and put out, I learn more in terms of filming styles, iMovie editing tricks and I have found that I have grown so much in confidence. Not only confidence to get in front of the camera, but also my confidence in being able to produce content that I am really proud of. If you want to take a watch of my latest IGTV videos, make sure to head over to my Instagram!
So those are the goals that I set myself at the beginning of the year, and where I am with those goals six months on! All in all I would say I have managed to achieve the goals that I can and some really positive things have come from this.
