A Few Realistic Goals for 2021

Happy New Year everyone! I know it’s cliche to say, but I cannot believe that today is the first day of 2021. It kind of feels slightly odd to be typing up this style of post considering what an about sh*t show 2020 was and although I know most peoples goals for 2020 would have gone completely out of the window, I still wanted to reflect a little on last year and set myself a few realistic goals for 2021!

A Few Realistic Goals for 2021

Let’s reflect a little on 2020 and set a few realistic goals for 2021..

I think it goes without saying that 2020 has been a year that none of us thought we’d ever experience and to think of what life was like before, to me it just feels like a dream. Although 2020 has come with some extreme lows for many, there has also been a few little highs that should be celebrated considering we’ve not had all that much to celebrate. Back in the Summer I Reflected on My Goals Six Months On where I spoke about the goals I had set myself at the beginning of the year and I felt that with all things considered I’d not too bad of job, minus the travel goals I’d set. I also set myself A Few Goals for The Rest of 2020 where I made some new goals to work towards for the remainder of 2020 and I thought it would be good to touch on those before setting a few realistic goals for 2020.

One of my main goals for the rest of 2020 was to work even harder on my Instagram and hopefully reach 2K followers, which i’m really pleased to say that I have! I finally hit 2K back in November I believe and I have LOVED putting in the effort that I have been with my Instagram. I definitely feel that I have gotten into a good rhythm with Instagram and I actually love it rather than loathe it as I did a couple of years ago! Another goal I had set myself for 2020 was to push myself more with running and finally run a 10K… this didn’t happen unfortunately, but it still something I would like to tick off into 2021 perhaps when the weather is a little nicer than it is right now. The last goal I set myself for the rest of 2020 was to go on a staycation and this also didn’t happen. The main reason being that it just didn’t feel right or the responsible thing to do given that case rates rose massively through September and of course we went back into a lockdown come November. Fingers crossed travelling even just within the UK is something we can do this year, but overall I’m not too fussed if it doesn’t. Overall I’m pretty happy with where I’ve gotten to with those goals and some of course will roll amongst a few realistic goals for 2021, so let’s get into those!

Look Forward to Starting a New Job

Yep, you read that right. In 2021 I will be starting a new chapter and journey with my career and leaving the company that I have worked for, for just over six years! Never did I think this is something that would be happening this year, but if 2020 taught me anything it’s that if an opportunity comes your way, don’t just dismiss it. I have very much lived by the motto of ‘what will be, will be’ and it has really gotten me through this past year. Although i’m really excited for this next chapter and to further my career, I’m also sad to be leaving behind a truly fantastic company and my wonderful colleagues who have become friends for life.

Get Back into a Routine with Fitness

This goal is just a classic ‘me’ goal as I swear every year I say a similar thing and for the most part I do get into a good routine with fitness and working out, but somewhere along the way I fall out of that routine and I have to either get back into the same routine, or try something else. Through 2020 I absolutely loved doing home workouts and getting out for runs especially when the weather was as beautiful as it was, but come the colder months I’ve just not been motivated what so ever. Also during 2020 I cancelled my gym membership due to moving and also covid, and to be honest I don’t think I’m overly bothered about going back to the gym. I’ve seen more results from working with my body weight/low weights than I have when I used to lift ‘heavy’. I’m not 100% sure what my plan is as of yet, but once I am settled in my new job I will definitely be looking at what I can do to get myself back into a routine that involves fitness somehow.

Continue to Grow My Instagram

When it comes to blog/social media goals I wasn’t going to make any because I finally feel that I have found my feet and flow with this whole blogging thing that I didn’t then want to put more pressure on myself, thus taking the fun away. Having said that, one goal that I know I can continue working on is continuing to grow my Instagram. As I mentioned above I have really been enjoying Instagram and creating the content that I have been putting out over the last year or so. I could say that I want to reach X amount of followers in 2021, but not putting a number on the amount I want to grow fully takes the pressure off and it means I can continue to make and out out content that I enjoy making.

Take Each Day as It Comes and Worry Less

If 2020 has taught me one thing it’s that worrying about the future does no one the world of good. Many of us strive and plan for the future and i’m not saying thats wrong, but given how 2020 has gone being able to plan for the future is something that I think a lot of us have changed our approach and thoughts on. Going into 2021 I want to ensure that I try to not worry about the future and just take each day as it comes. Enjoying each day however I can rather than wondering what the next day is going to bring.

So those are a few realistic goals for 2021.

What goals have you set yourself for this next year?
